Variation of non‐structural carbohydrates across the fast–slow continuum in Amazon Forest canopy trees

چکیده
Abstract Tropical tree species span a range of life‐history strategies within fast–slow continuum. The position this continuum is thought to reflect negative relationship between growth and storage, with fast‐growing allocating more carbon slow‐growing investing in storage. For tropical species, the storage has been largely studied on seedlings less so adult trees. We evaluated how stored non‐structural carbohydrates (NSC) vary across trees spanning Peruvian Amazon by: (a) analysing whole‐tree NSC two contrasting (b) investigating relationships key traits broader set species. Our results are consistent growth–storage trade‐off. analysis revealed that Eschweilera coriacea about 2.7 times as much Bixa arborea due markedly higher woody stems roots. B . also had seasonality NSC, reflecting its strong stem growth. Across starch was negatively related rate positively wood density. Given role mediating plants' response stress, our suggest greater reserves may be resilient drought than

Seasonal dynamics and age of stemwood nonstructural carbohydrates in temperate forest trees.
Nonstructural carbohydrate reserves support tree metabolism and growth when current photosynthates are insufficient, offering resilience in times of stress. We monitored stemwood nonstructural carbohydrate (starch and sugars) concentrations of the dominant tree species at three sites in the northeastern United States. We estimated the mean age of the starch and sugars in a subset of trees using...
متن کاملForest Canopy Gap Distributions in the Southern Peruvian Amazon
Canopy gaps express the time-integrated effects of tree failure and mortality as well as regrowth and succession in tropical forests. Quantifying the size and spatial distribution of canopy gaps is requisite to modeling forest functional processes ranging from carbon fluxes to species interactions and biological diversity. Using high-resolution airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), we m...

The nonstructural carbohydrates (NSC), mainly sugars and starch, fulfil distinct functional roles, including transport, energy metabolism and osmoregulation, and provide substrates for the s...
متن کاملCapability of Rapid Eye Satellite Imagery to Map the Distribution of Canopy Trees in Dashtebarm Forest Area of Fars Province
In this research, the capability of Rapid Eye satellite imagery for mapping the crown distribution of oak trees in Zagros forests was investigated in the Dashtebarm forest area of Kazeroun, Fars province. In this study, data quality was investigated geometrically and radiometrically and geometric correction of the images was done using a linear method and using precision ground control ...
متن کاملBacterial Biogeography across the Amazon River-Ocean Continuum
Spatial and temporal patterns in microbial biodiversity across the Amazon river-ocean continuum were investigated along ∼675 km of the lower Amazon River mainstem, in the Tapajós River tributary, and in the plume and coastal ocean during low and high river discharge using amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA genes in whole water and size-fractionated samples (0.2-2.0 μm and >2.0 μm). River communiti...
